RISING: THE 2014 BEST OF LOWELL AWARDS

Lowell, MA - The 5th floor of the Western Avenue Studios was especially busy on November 15. Hosted by MHM Studios Printmaking (#501), the team behind the 2014 Best of Lowell Awards met as a targeted launch is right around the corner. Chosen by a panel of design and marketing experts, the winners of these awards will be rewarded with public recognition as one the Mill City's most beautiful businesses.

At Design 4 Lowell, believe that the revitalization of the city will come through the restoration of our businesses, because the reality of tourism is that people want to go to those towns with great streets filled with elegant, cute, and appealing spots. The Best of Lowell Awards aim to reward those who have done an incredible job in marketing, aesthetics, branding, decor, etc in an effort to boost economic development and encourage tourism.

Those behind the project follow the vision which Cam Preciado from Christian Hill Studios brought to the scene back in September of 2012. Joining the team are the award winning Markus Haala from MHM Studios Printmaking, Peter from the Owl Stamp Visual Solutions, Brian Hogue (our November Designer of the Month from Fivewise Designs), Felix of Vessel Vision Productions.... the list keeps going. Thank you guys for your help and for sharing the vision! Newcomers Val from GI Design Group and UMass Lowell alum Castro ( art-box.co, photo, video and graphic design) will aid in the coming weeks! DESIGNER OF THE MONTH: BRIAN HOGUE

Lowell, MA - It was no coincidence when one day a couple of designers saw some terrific designs posted at Brew'd Awakening for the Lowell Film Collaborative. We were astounded by the creativity of the poster, the custom artwork, and the distribution cards that came attached to it! What a wonder it is to this day when that very artist ended up connecting with us wanting more information on Design 4 Lowell!

That artist was Brian Hogue, whose brand Fivewise Designs is quietly picking up popularity as a trusted, resourceful, innovative and dependable brand. One of the very first project we sent Brian's way was our largest ever, and it was his experience from working at the Lowell Sun that made it a success. The client is One 27 Global, and his mission was to take over two dozen pages of copy and translate them into seven 3x10 foot banners for their 2013 Charity Ball. The final outcome was beautifully designed and elegantly presented banners that will aid One 27 Global in fighting the root causes of poverty here in Lowell and all over the world.

Next up for Brian is his involvement in the 2014 Best of Lowell Awards, where he will be unveiling his brochure design, an integral and key part of the project. His clean layouts always communicate information effectively and his eagerness to work with a team of crazy designers makes him one of our favorite people to work with.

If you would like to connect with Brian regarding your design projects, contact us at Design4Lowell@gmail.com or visit his website to see his work: http://bybhogue.wordpress.com/. With that, Brian we thank you for your hard work and your love for Lowell. Mill City, meet your new Designer of the Month! Together, we are designing a beautiful future.

DESIGNER OF THE MONTH: KATE DELANEY

Lowell, MA - We wanted to find the best talent in the area. We looked for graphic designers, web developers, illustrators, and marketing superstars. We needed the strongest talent possible if we were to truly design a beautiful future for Lowell, for Lawrence, and where ever we dared to venture. It just so happened that it was our lucky day when we were introduced to miss Kate Delaney (www.Katedelaney.net.) Her work for El Taller, our meeting place, was obvious from the start. Her creative talent was on display everywhere and her journal full of gorgeous, hand-drawn masterpieces the like we had not seen. However, it was her strong focus on the restaurant industry that caught our attention. We knew we were staring at the future...

She received her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and is currently a freelance designer and illustrator our of Lawrence, MA. Her work is a balanced blend of painting, print-making, and multi-media design. Her large scale murals are breathtaking, as are her logos, signage, and advertising strategy. Kate's solid resume also includes 3 dimensional floor plans, clever refurbished projects, delicious edible treats, and a strong list of clientele that includes Cafe Azteca, Pazzo Gelato, and of course El Taller, where she spends most of her time with her equally talented partner. Together, they turned El Taller into a prominent coffee shop and bookstore that is amongst the best locations in the city.

Our first project awarded to Kate was a poster for CITY OF PROMISE: Lawrence, part of a larger, underground movement to revitalize the city led my a prominent leader from Lawrence CommunityWorks. What she produced was way above our expectations and the client was of course, thrilled. It was the first of many projects, as we look forward to sending her many many many design jobs in the future! Next up? She will be partnering with Christian Hill Studios to launch the Best of Lawrence Awards sometime in 2014!! Stay tuned for that.

To contract Kate Delaney, email us at Design4lowell@gmail.com, like her on Facebook (facebook.com/katejdelaney) or visit her website directly at Katedelaney.net. Until next month....
